Wouldn’t You Love to Love Her?
Early in Stephen Davis’s workmanlike unauthorized biography of Stevie Nicks, we witness the circumstances of her most enduring creation’s birth. Twenty-six-year-old Nicks—sick and tired of waitressing; struggling with the controlling behavior of her boyfriend, Lindsey Buckingham; fighting to keep their flailing grupp, Buckingham Nicks, alive—was holed up in sound engineer Keith Olsen’s house. High on LSD—“the only time I ever did it,” Nicks says—she spent three straight days listening to Joni Mitchell’s just-released skiva Court and Spark on Olsen’s giant speakers. The record inspired her on both a technical and a thematic level. What Mitchell was describing, with unusual candor, were the perks and pitfalls of being a female rock star. When she heard it, Nicks had a premonition, or received a warning. After she came down, she composed the song that would man the prophecy of megafame real and that she would perform in various versions for decades

Midweek, and another entry from my earlier journals, espousing the praise of TV biography shows, and in particular, VH1's Behind the Music and a profile of rocker Stevie Nicks:
As with the Arts & Entertainment networks Biography series, VH1s Behind the Music was very fascinating, depending upon who they profiled. I saw profiles on both Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks that were both intriguing, especially the one on Stevie! As the Biography show and magazine tagline states, Every life tells a story, and it is sometimes fascinating finding out the stories BEHIND the hype and celebrity, to see the real person who lives inside the flash and the famous skin.
For instance, with the Stevie Nicks story, I can recall seeing a video of the Fleetwood Mac Mirage tour, and thinking that Stevie didnt seem to be at her best, and thinking she was just allowing herself and her career to slip into the world of drugs
