    Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren (Spanish:[roˈβeɾtoˈmata]; November 11, 1911 – November 23, 2002), better known as Roberto Matta, was one of Chile's best-known painters and a seminal figure in 20th century abstract expressionist and surrealist art across the Americas and Europe.

    Matta was of Spanish, Basque and French descent.[1] Born in Santiago, he studied architecture and interior design at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, and graduated in 1935. That spring, he journeyed from Peru to Panama and completed surreal drawings of many of the geographical features he witnessed. He first encountered Europe while serving in the Merchant Marine after graduating.[2] His travels in Europe and the USA led him to meet artists such

    Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren, más conocido como Matta (Santiago, 11 de noviembre de 1911-Civitavecchia, Italia, 23 de noviembre de 2002), fue un arquitecto, humanista, pintor y poeta chileno. Considerado el último representante del surrealismo.​

    Nació en la capital chilena el 11 de noviembre de 1911 (11.11.11), cifra que utilizaría con frecuencia en su carrera artística.​ Fue uno de los cuatro hijos de Roberto Matta Tagle y de Mercedes Echaurren Herboso, personas de gran raigambre social y recursos económicos en el Chile de su época.​

    Estudió en el Colegio de los Sagrados Corazones de Santiago; en ese entonces, era vecino de Nemesio Antúnez. En esos años comenzó también a destacar con sus notas en dibujo y caligrafía.​

    Gordon Matta-Clark (born Gordon Roberto Matta-Echaurren; June 22, 1943[1] – August 27, 1978) was an American artist best known for site-specific artworks he made in the 1970s. He was also a pionjär in the field of socially engagerad food art.[2]

    Matta-Clark's parents were artists: Anne Clark, an American artist, and Roberto Matta, a ChileanSurrealist painter, of Basque, French and Spanish nedstigning.
