Billy elliot the musical age appropriate

  • Billy elliot age rating
  • Is billy elliot appropriate for a 10 year old
  • I took my 8 year old son to see billy Elliot As a family trip.
  • In the search for kid-friendly Broadway shows, Billy Elliot was on the list. After all, it centers on a pre-teen boy, with plenty of peers in the cast.

But would my 7 year old son want to watch a boy doing ballet? Would he fall asleep during the three hour production? Would he understand the plot about the British coal-workers’ strike? How would he react to the curse words used during the production?

I needn’t have worried. Both he, and my 9 year old daughter, loved the show, and so did I. Even in nose-bleed seats.

It’s inspiring for kids to see a Broadway show carried by someone close to their own age. The four boys who play Billy (they take turns) are around 11-12 years old. Two of them are making their Broadway debuts in this role.

Peter Mazurowski played Billy the night of our show, and his acting and dancing were terrific. He definitely wasn’t hired for his singing ability, though he sang just fine. Equally as good was Billy’s sidekick Michael, played by Jake Evan Schwencke

Our Verdict: Entertaining, gritty and emotional. A Must-See.

    Our Rating: 10/10

I wasn’t the one who spent three hours dancing on stage last night and yet by the end of Billy Elliot, currently on at The Bristol Hippodrome, I was emotionally drained and shattered.

This is the original talent ‘journey’. The kind that is usually contrived on TV talent shows. Yet somehow despite being fiction, the musical stage version of Billy Elliot is far more genuine than the saccharine sob story Real Deals discovered by Simon Cowell on a Saturday night.

Billy was played in this performance by Bath based Haydn May. He was stunning. A brilliant actor, gymnast and of course dancer. It’s a big role for young children but he never faltered and the beauty of his dancing in Swan Lake with Luke Cinque-White as Billy’s Older Self was such that it made me cry.

In fact, the entire cast is brilliant. Talented, believable and guess what? No celebrity names to drag the stand
