    A member of the Socialist Party and the youngest daughter of former president of ChileSalvador Allende and Hortensia Bussi, Allende served as a deputy from to and in March she became a Senator for the Atacama Region. On 28 February , she was selected as president of the Senate, a position previously held by her father in the s,[5] making her the first female president of the Senate in Chilean history.

When troops later stormed in, they found the President’s body in one of the palace’s main halls, his hand resting near a rifle.
