Sometimes there is an urgent need for oppositional resistance. Without overlooking that, I’d like to argue in this paper that oppositional resistance is an emergency measure rather than a solution, because it necessarily risks reproducing the structures it resists. Reciprocity provides (I shall suggest) a non-heroic, non-binary, and deeply subversive alternative to oppositional resistance. Re
