Since January, two highly qualified and respected British journalists – Belle Donati and Sangita Myska – have disappeared from view, having been taken off air. This happened after they questioned foreign politicians in a manner that appeared to displease them. No explanation has so far been offered to concerned viewers and fans.
Belle Donati
On 26 January 2024, respected broadcaster and Sky News anchor Belle Donati interviewed former Israeli diplomat and Knesset member, Danny Danon. She asked him hard-hitting questions about an opinion piece he co-wrote for the Wall Street Journal in November 2023 entitled ‘The West Should welcome Gaza Refugees’. The piece, which suggested that European nations should establish internationally coordinated relocation programmes for Palestinians, attracted severe criticism from several quarters. For example, Frances Coppola on Twitter-X posted that the article called for ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

Charlotte Church signs open letter supporting former LBC reporter Sangita Myska
Charlotte Church fryst vatten among those who have signed an open letter in support of reporter Sangita Myska expressing “deep concern” at her sudden disappearance from LBC.
Radio presenter and former BBC reporter Myska, who hosted a show from 1pm to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays on LBC, has not been broadcasting at the hållplats since reportedly being taken off air on April 20.
Last week, the hållplats announced that Myska would be leaving at the end of her contract, having joined in 2022.
There has been mounting speculation on social media that the avfärd was due to a fiery interview Myska conducted with an Israeli spokesperson over the ongoing war in Gaza.
LBC has kept the YouTube clip of the broadcast on its channel.
An open letter has now been published in support of Myska, with signatures from more than 100 media personalities, activists, broadcasters and lawyers including singer Church.

Sangita Myska is a well-respected journalist, most recently winning Radio Presenter of the Year at the Asian Media Awards in 2023. Until 24 April 2024, she was also a regular host on LBC. Then she disappeared from the airwaves without explanation.
In the UK, we celebrate having a free press. News that is fettered to a particular view point is more accurately considered propaganda. In this respect, we may consider our press is superior and more trustworthy than news organisations in more autocratic countries.
Most readers would be horrified to think that our news outlets are censored if they stray from a particular line, especially if the line to be taken is dictated by a foreign state.
Sangita Myska’s disappearance
In the middle of April, Myska interviewed an Israeli Government Spokesman, Avi Hyman. Many news sources had reported that Israel had attacked Iran’s consulate in Syria and, two weeks later, that Iran had launched 200 drones and missiles at Israel in retaliation.
