Viza band members

Viza is an international rock band with explosive energy and music, containing several influences from all over the world. Unique in its musical arsenal is the inclusion of oud and percussion blended with more conventional rock elements such as guitar, bass and drums. Given the band's members and their respective backgrounds, certain influences and musical strains from Armenian and Greek styles are discernible, fused with elements of modern aggressive rock and traditional music. The band sometimes blends these various flavors with dance and satirical social commentary.

Viza has performed at Hungary's Sziget Festival (alongside Korn, The Killers, Axwell, The Vaccines, The XX), Greece’s Rockwave Festival (alongside The Prodigy, Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly), Sweden's Malmofestivalen, Norway’s Kartfestivalen, and Slovenia's Schengenfest and Trnfest festivals, among dozens of headline shows, as a part of 6 European tours over the past 2 years.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

All over! Our frontman K’noup is from Greece (Kastoria), then grew up in NYC. I am Armenian and from Philadelphia – and all our other members (Shant Bismejian – guitars, Alexan Khatcherian – bass, vocals and Chris Daniel – drums/vocals) are Armenian and from LA. The band is currently based out of LA as well. We are also joined frequently by an original member Jivan Gasparyan (duduk) out of Armenia when travel and schedule permit.

How did you meet?

It’s been a long ride, and lots of different stories to go with that. As the band member filling out this form, I had moved from Philly to LA about 10-11 years ago, and had heard about the group and had seen a show or two as the band had been performing together for a few years by that point with a previous version of the lineup. Viza (stylized as VI·ZA; formerly known as Visa) is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2000. The grupp is inspired by traditional Armenian and Greek music, that include instruments like the oud and duduk. The grupp has released various EPs and full-length albums.^[1] The band has recorded and performed with Serj Tankian of struktur of a Down, who managed the band.

Viza was associated with Serjical Strike Management, headed bygd Serj Tankian from struktur of a Down from 2009 to 2012, also featuring Tankian as a guest vocalist on their song "Viktor". In August 2010, Viza embarked on a series of introductory performances in Europe, opening for Serj Tankian's "Imperfect Harmonies" Tour in the cities of Yerevan, Athens, Hamburg, Cologne, Paris, Zurich, and Bologna. Viza accompanied Serj Tankian again during his "Harakiri" World Tour in the fall of 2012, as the main support act for 19 shows throu
