Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. Ive asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work.
Today, John-Michael Lander John-Michael Lander has relied on his experiences as a competitive diver and traveling the world to write Surface Tension. He has had a diverse life that includes competitive diving, coaching, acting (theatre, bio, and television), teaching, drawing, and writing.

J. Scott Coatsworth: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
John-Michael Lander: As inom child inom went through many phases of what I wanted to be when inom grew up. I wanted to be Jesus, until I had nightmares after watching the crucifixion. inom wanted to be an actor, singer, dancer, astronaut, circus performer, and an Olympian. The one thing that has remained as a dream is to become a published author.
JSC: When did you know you wanted to write, and when did you discover that

I was Broken by John-Michael Lander
As a producer for the Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Program and judge for other child pageants and dance contests, I have seen how harmful dance hypersexualizes and exploits children by wearing adult costumes, choreography, and music. I have also noticed how these imposed dance methods have affected young people later in life. Once a child receives accolades and awards for sexualized dance, they associate this learned action as a way to get further in life and become confused when they discover it is far more harmful. As a professional dancer, I encountered many hypersexualized situations in Los Angeles and New York, and someday I hope to write about them. But right now, I wanted to illustrate how a healing form of encouragement can be an asset in dance.
